Since publishing Planet Now, I have focused on sharing my research with as many people as possible! We can make waves of change as individuals by helping those around us better understand environmental issues (especially climate change) and how they can help. Please see my speaker reel below to learn more about the topics I love to discuss with others interested in taking action to help the environment.
I have been fortunate to have had opportunities to speak with organizations about effective strategies for communicating about the environment as well as my experience publishing a book on that topic. Some groups I have spoken with include:
- Honors Carolina (UNC-Chapel Hill honors program)
-UNC ENEC 201: Intro to Environment and Society course
- UNC Navigating Academics, Careers, and Life in the Era of Climate Change lecture series
- Peak Teens for Climate (climate advocacy group in Apex, NC)
- UNC Citizens' Climate Lobby
- North Carolina Public Interest Research Group at UNC (NCPIRG)
- UNC Student Environmental Action Committee (SEAC)
- EarthDNA
- Splash UNC
I also love to speak with others passionate about sustainability on the platform Clubhouse - follow me there (@jessica.reid) so we can chat!
As part of a STEM career pathways educational series, I spoke with STEM For Kids Founder and CEO Moni Singh about my experiences communicating about environmental science. I was thrilled about this discussion since my first job was as an Assistant STEM Coach at STEM For Kids, and I had to find ways to explain complicated STEM concepts to kids ages 4-13, helping me improve my science communication skills. The goal of this event was help some of the budding scientists in the program see how many different directions they can go with STEM!
