Welcome! My name is Jessica, and I am passionate about creating a more environmentally sustainable future through strategic communication. I have long been concerned about the future of the environment due to issues like climate change, pollution, and waste. Growing up in the quickly urbanizing Triangle region of North Carolina, I saw a lot of clearcutting, sparking my concern about human impacts on the environment. Rachel Carson's well-known book Silent Spring and its subsequent impact on the environmental movement inspired me to pursue communications as a way to help solve environmental issues and achieve climate justice. My UNC-Chapel Hill education on the environment and science communication has further helped me understand how climate change is the greatest issue facing humans and the planet. Climate change is an issue that is happening not just in the future, but in the present as well. It is important to be strategic when communicating about this issue so that messages are clear and resonate with intended audiences.
