Hello! As someone who's had a passion for protecting the planet and its people for as long as I can remember, I’ve helped create a sustainable world through data analysis and communications roles in the government, nonprofit, and private sectors. In 2020, I published a book called Planet Now: Effective Strategies for Communicating About the Environment.
I graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill's Environment and Science Communication dual-degree program. In this program, I earned a master's degree in media and communication with a focus on strategic communication as well as a bachelor's degree in environmental studies with a focus on sustainability. I also earned minors in public policy and media and journalism. While at UNC, I published research on how local governments communicate about climate change. For my master's thesis, I created a data-based communications plan to encourage North Carolina residents to support residential solar. I am interested in the intersection of the environment with clean technology, entrepreneurship, government, journalism, marketing, public policy, science communication, and social equity. I get to work toward sustainability in my community everyday as a sustainability analyst for the City of Raleigh. I also have experience in strategically communicating to help our environment through roles for organizations/companies including North Carolina Sustainable Energy Association, Carolina Solar Services, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Heart of Waraba (tells stories of environmental entrepreneurs), East Coast Greenway Alliance, Brenner Law Firm (environmental law), UNC Institute for the Environment Cleantech Corner, and STEM For Kids. I've developed leadership, communications, and organizational skills through several student organizations, such as United Solar Initiative, Honors Carolina Student Association, and Executive Branch of Student Government Environmental Affairs Committee. This work dates back to high school, when I founded my school's Environmental Club, starting a school garden and compost and coordinating environmental speakers and service events. Also, I love to spend time with friends and family, read, volunteer at community gardens, kayak at North Carolina's Crystal Coast, watch Carolina basketball, and play sports like soccer and tennis.
